Today was the fourth day of my happiness challenge. I'm pretty glad I decided to do this. It's too early to say it's paying off, but at least I spend more time a day thinking about things that made me happy now - if only so that I can come up with three things to write down here, heheh.
1. Time alone with Mum and Dad
I had a really nice conversation with my mum today. I'm not really going to specify what it was about, but it was kind of deep and just one of those moments that made me feel closer to her, which is nice. We just spent the evening together having tea, eating pepernoten, and watching a movie.
2. London in two weeks
I know, I know, it's still a bit far off... but I'm really excited for my trip to London for the 25th of October. I'll be going with a friend I don't know extremely well (she's really a friend of my sister, and I'm a bit afraid to 'steal' her away or something), but I'd like to get to know her better - I know we have a lot in common. We'll be on a night bus together, which will probably be exhausting and the most fun thing ever. I'll be visiting Foyles, the giant bookstore in London, for which I already have a whole list of books to buy; we'll roam London for a bit, visit Starbucks (multiple times, hopefully).
And then, of course, I'll be seeing two Wicked shows: a muck-up matinee and a final performance. I'm super excited for both, as well as the opportunity to finally meet some more of the Verkaikings, whom I've been dying to meet ever since I first got to know them online. My friend is seeing the evening performance with me (she'll be going to Madame Tussauds when I am in the matinee, because she's dying to kiss Benedict Cumberbatch :P) and since she cried when I let her listen to Willemijn Verkaik's Defying Gravity... I can hardly wait to see her reaction. Seeing Wicked with newbies is the best thing in the whole world.
3. Singing
Let me clear this up: I cannot sing. I am from a very musically orientated family and I love music - I've grown up with it. I have a keen sense of rhythm, I can play the piano and the drums a bit, too, I listen to music a lot and I suppose that when I really concentrate and try to make something good come out, I can sing something that does not sound too bad.
However, when I am singing along to the karaoke tracks on my MP3-player (yes, I have karaoke tracks on my MP3-player) whilst driving the scooter (yes, I listen to my MP3-player whilst driving the scooter; yes, I also sing whilst driving the scooter; and yes, I put aforementioned karaoke songs on my MP3-player for the sole reason of being able to sing along with them on the scooter), I probably sound like a dying cat. You must understand that the songs I sing along to are mostly musical tracks (No Good Deed, The Wizard and I, and Defying Gravity from Wicked are great favourites, along with Fabulous, Baby! from Sister Act) and great songs like Somebody To Love from Queen - not exactly things that are easy to sing.
So today I just drove my scooter up a hill, belting (or screeching) out Defying Gravity in three languages (as in, three languages in one song), and I just felt really happy.
Ha. Judging from what I just wrote down, I guess today was a better day than I had initially thought :). Look at that!
Update: I just thought of two more and I just have to add them.
4. Stepping into a warm bed
I just did that ten seconds ago and it's heavenly. Long live electric blankets.
5. Murderous reviews
I'm sorry, I know it's sadistic, but they just completely make my day. It's the best feeling in the world (one of them, anyway) to post a chapter in which you kill someone or do some other horrible thing, and then all the reviews you get are like, "NOOOOO!", and "WHY?!", and "MADDY I'M COMING TO MURDER YOU!". It warms my heart :D. And it makes me feel... wicked.
Look at the great day you had! U get to go to London im two weeks AND see wicked TWICE?! Oh you lucky girl!!
ReplyDeleteOk I have to ask, do you have a Facebook? I ask because 1) you seem awesome and I'd love to chat and 2) I need more friends who get the awesomeness that is Wicked! Lol
Have an awesome night/day lol
Hi!
DeleteI do have Facebook, but it's my 'normal' social medium - which means I mostly use it for real life friends and family, uni, things like that. I do all my fangirling on Twitter. I don't know if you have a Twitter account; but if you do, my Twitter name is @CliffyQueen :).
